Türkiye has launched the construction of bomb shelters nationwide, a move approved by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in June amid rising security concerns following the Israel–Iran conflict, Middle East Eye reported.
- The project is being overseen by the Housing Development Administration (TOKİ), with some metro stations considered for conversion into shelters.
- The plan focuses on minimizing civilian risks in case of war, disasters, or even nuclear threats.
- Officials are studying international models, including Israel, Japan, and Switzerland.
- Construction has already started in several cities, including Ankara.
