At IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich, Togg Chairman Fuat Tosyali voiced sharp criticism of Chinese automakers, calling their rapid global push an “expansionist policy.” While acknowledging their growing presence in international markets, Tosyali questioned their ability to integrate with Turkish society.
“The Chinese are following an expansionist policy; they suddenly emerged. I don’t think they will identify with and integrate with Turkish society,” he said, appearing alongside Togg CEO Gürcan Karakaş.
Despite these concerns, Tosyali emphasized that Togg has no fear of competition when conditions are equal. “Against China, our production costs, charges, and sales are clear. On equal terms, we’ll be successful. I believe our authorities will maintain the balance,” he stated.
Tosyali noted that investment is open to all global players, including Chinese firms, but stressed that genuine integration requires creating jobs and contributing to the local ecosystem. He pointed to Togg’s 3,000 employees in Gemlik, who work around the clock as part of the community.
“If a Chinese investor comes here, employs our people, provides the same social standards, and integrates into our society, then they’re not Chinese anymore—they’re actually Turkish. We would give them all our support,” Tosyali said.
However, he warned against investors who might rely on foreign contractors and avoid local engagement. “If they come here and have their construction done by their own contractor, that won’t work. Then it wouldn’t be a fair race anyway,” he added.
