Turkish Airlines Signs Boeing Agreement

ISTANBUL, Sept 26 (Reuters) – Turkish Airlines announced it has finalized a deal to purchase 225 Boeing aircraft, including 75 Boeing 787 Dreamliners and 150 Boeing 737 MAX jets, following talks between President Tayyip Erdogan and US President Donald Trump in Washington.

The agreement comes as Türkiye seeks to strengthen aviation ties with the US. Trump signaled he may lift sanctions on Ankara to allow the purchase of F-35 fighter jets, while urging Türkiye to reduce Russian oil imports.

Details of the Boeing Purchase

  • 75 Boeing 787-9/10 aircraft (50 firm, 25 optional), deliveries between 2029–2034.
  • 150 Boeing 737-8/10 MAX aircraft (100 firm, 50 optional), pending final engine negotiations with CFM International.
  • Ongoing talks with Rolls-Royce and GE Aerospace on engine supply and maintenance.

Turkish Airlines’ shares rose slightly in Istanbul trading following the announcement.

Expansion Strategy

The deal is part of Turkish Airlines’ long-term plan to grow its fleet to over 800 aircraft by 2033, up from 485 in June 2025.

In December 2023, the airline also placed a 355-plane order with Airbus, positioning itself as one of the fastest-expanding carriers in global aviation.

“With these orders, our entire fleet aims to consist of new-generation aircraft by 2035, strengthening efficiency and supporting an average 6% annual growth rate,” the company said.

Turkish Airlines also recently acquired a minority stake in Spain’s Air Europa, outpacing rivals Lufthansa and Air France-KLM in expanding its European footprint.
